Waking between 3–5am Points to the Lung system — grief, unprocessed emotion, or Lung Qi deficiency. This pattern is common in people going through significant life transitions or carrying unresolved loss.

Light, unrefreshing sleep / vivid dreams all night Suggests Heart and Spleen deficiency — not enough Blood being produced to nourish the Heart. Common in people who are overworked, under-nourished, or running on chronic depletion.

Hot, restless sleep / night sweats Often a Kidney Yin deficiency pattern. The cooling, nourishing aspect of the body is depleted, leaving heat to rise at night. Common in perimenopausal women and in people who have pushed hard for years without adequate recovery.

How Acupuncture Treats Insomnia

Once the pattern is identified, treatment is targeted directly at what's driving the disruption.

Nervous system regulation Research consistently shows that acupuncture reduces cortisol and adrenaline levels while increasing GABA and serotonin — the neurotransmitters that allow the brain to shift out of alert mode and into genuine rest. What to Expect from Treatment

Your first appointment is 90 minutes and includes a full intake — your sleep patterns, what kind of insomnia you're experiencing, your stress levels, digestion, emotional state, and overall health history. Everything is relevant because everything is connected.

Treatment itself involves fine acupuncture needles placed at specific points — typically on the hands, feet, lower legs, abdomen, and head — held for 20–30 minutes. Most patients find the experience deeply relaxing. Many fall asleep on the table.
